Malpua is a delicious Indian dessert that's suited for Karva Chauth and Diwali.

Ingredients:
1. 1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
2. 1/4 cup semolina (sooji)
3. 1/2 cup milk
4. 1/4 cup yogurt
5. 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
6. A pinch of saffron strands (optional)
7. Oil or ghee for frying

For the sugar syrup:
1. 1 cup sugar
2. 1/2 cup water
3. A few saffron strands
4. 1/4 tsp cardamom powder

Instructions:

1. Start by making the sugar syrup. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water, and bring it to a boil. Add saffron strands and cardamom powder. Simmer until it reaches a one-string consistency. Set it aside.

2. In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, semolina, milk, yogurt, cardamom powder, and saffron strands. Mix well to form a smooth batter. Let it rest for about 30 minutes.

3. Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat. You can use a flat-bottomed ladle or a small cup to pour the batter into the hot oil, forming small pancakes.

4. Fry the pancakes until they turn golden brown on both sides. Use a slotted spoon to remove excess oil and transfer them directly into the sugar syrup. Let them soak for a minute or two.

5. Remove the malpuas from the syrup and place them on a serving plate. Garnish with chopped nuts if desired.

6. Serve warm, and enjoy your homemade malpuas!

This is a simplified version of the recipe. You can customize it by adding flavors like fennel seeds or chopped fruits to the batter.
